    Description

    Wooden hand carved Doll pair Handmade Handpainted 11"x3" rare Nigerian, tribal, fatting ibibio doll. Trafitionally given to young unwed girls at the time of entering the Ibibio fatting house by their  Ebere Society.  Condition is "Used". Mounted on 10x4" wood base, very well painted in matte paints, and carved, museum quality, very unusual Ibibio dolls. African Ibibio Fatting Carved Wooden Tribal Art Doll. The dolls are believed to be at least 100 years old. "These dolls were given to young unwed girls at the time of entering the Ibibio fatting house by their Ebere Society sponsor and are carried by the girl throughout her sojourn there. The doll symbolizes the beautiful child the maiden is to bear within the year after she leaves the fatting house and is married. Very good condition! " Both Stand about 11" tall.
